98/100 - James Suckling
96/100 - Decanter
The 2014 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Grand Crus Blanc de Blancs is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes sourced from the five villages classified as Grand Crus in the Côte des Blancs region. This cuvée is only produced in exceptional vintages, when the harvest is of a quality worthy of becoming a great vintage.
Appearance:
Brilliant golden‑yellow with extremely fine, persistent bubbles that form a delicate mousse, showcasing its extended ageing on lees.
Nose:
An elegant and complex bouquet with bright citrus confit, lemon oil, and ripe orchard fruit, layered with white flowers, delicate brioche and pastry notes, chalky minerality, and hints of mint and chamomile. Subtle tropical nuances and toasted almond weave in as it opens.
Palate:
The palate is vibrant and linear, driven by taut acidity and a creamy mid‑palate texture. Flavours of lemon blossom, lime, and pear are complemented by saline minerality, a touch of almond/white hazelnut, and faint herbal complexity. Fine, chalk‑driven energy carries through with balanced breadth and freshness.
Finish:
Long, clean and persistent, with chalky salinity and citrus zest lingering alongside impressions of orange blossom and saline minerality — a signature of great Blanc de Blancs from the Côte des Blancs.
Alc: 12.5%
