Octomore from Bruichladdich is the most heavily peated, followed by Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Lagavulin. Bunnahabhain is the least smoky.

Which Islay whisky should I try first?

Bowmore 12 and Caol Ila 12 are gentler introductions. For a classic smoky dram, try Lagavulin 16 or Laphroaig 10.

About Islay Whisky

Islay is a small island off Scotland's west coast with around ten working distilleries. Its malts are famous for peat smoke, iodine, sea salt and medicinal notes, though Bunnahabhain and classic Bruichladdich are unpeated.
