Ardmore 'Signatory" NZ exclusive 2010/14 yo 58.4% 700ml
This New Zealand exclusive single cask release was bottled in collaboration with the renowned Signatory Vintage. Distilled at Ardmore Distillery, situated between Inverurie and Huntly in rural North East Scotland, the spirit was laid down in July 2010 and matured for 14 years. Its final chapter unfolded in a first-fill Oloroso hogshead, adding depth and richness to an already characterful whisky.
On the nose, it opens with the evocative character of old dunnage warehouses, before bursting into waves of raspberry ripple ice cream, rocky road, and chocolate-dipped raspberries. Ardmore’s unmistakable signature smoke is present throughout, expressed as a gentle veil of fragrant beechwood, reminiscent of an old-fashioned wood smoker.
The palate is rich, dense, and mouth-coating, delivering tart summer fruits, charred peaches, and firm, creamy toffee (Scottish, of course). At its core lies burnt orange zest and warming cinnamon spice, carrying through to a softly drying, elegantly smoky finish.
Bottled at 58.4% natural cask strength, time has gently mellowed the spirit, allowing its natural oils to shine. A splash of water will reward the drinker with a cloudy haze — a sure sign of authenticity and minimal intervention.
