Marca Negra Tepeztate is produced in limited quantities due to the scarcity of the agave Tepeztate. This mezcal is made by Jorge Mendez in San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca using the agave Tepeztate that take between 20-30 years to mature. This has an intense minerality with notes of spicy green peppers, chives, and peat.

Tasting Notes

On the nose it’s powerful and complex, with layers of cold smoke, green agave, citrus zest, vegetal and herbal nuances, and a striking earthy minerality that hints at its wild origin. The palate delivers an intense experience marked by smoky, savory notes, touches of green pepper and herbs, and subtle sweetness balanced by citrus and spicy accents, all accented by the noticeable presence of its higher alcohol strength. The finish is long and lingering, combining smoke, spice and fruit elements with a persistent savoury warmth that makes this mezcal ideal for sipping neat and appreciating slowly.
