Tom released NZ’s first commercial Cabernet Sauvignon in 1949, in later years pioneering New Zealand Chardonnay. By the 1960’s his Cabernets were being compared to some of the First Growth wines of Bordeaux. 

A core of fragrant cassis and dark berry fruit, cherry and plum is lifted by top notes of rosewood and cedar with cooler hints thyme, lavender and cardamom. A savoury dark earthy complexity brings a more serious, brooding undertone to the wine. On the palate the wine is medium/full-bodied with good mid palate flesh, finishing with a long, fine, supple tannin structure. This is a dense yet elegant wine with great depth which will reward long term cellaring until 2028 – 2043.
