"The 2005 vintage for the Loire Valley was fantastic. The growing season began with a warm,
dry, sunny spring making for both an early and successful budburst and flowering. A warm summer ensued with dry conditions making drought a minor concern for some vines but concentrating the grapes for others. The nights were refreshingly cool which helped retain essential acidity and aromatics within the grapes. After a cool August, both September and October delivered an Indian summer and the harvest was a relaxed, leisurely affair. The whites were also excellent, particularly the flinty drier styles of wine. For the sweeter styles, yields were limited as botrytis struggled to develop, but what was made tended to be excellent. Overall, the 2005 Loire vintage was superb with many great wines made. Although many are past their best, the top examples are likely to still drink excellently now." - Wine Searcher
