Aberlour 14YO Double Cask Speyside Single Malt 700ml

A 14-year-old single malt from the awesome Aberlour Distillery up in Scotland's prolific Speyside region. This expression has enjoyed its maturation in a combination of Oloroso sherry casks and first-fill American oak casks. Dig into all those fruity, spicy sherried notes that you're familiar with from Aberlour, paired with decadent helpings of rich, creamy vanilla. Highly ideal for somewhat chilly evenings, this one.

TASTING NOTES:

Big aromatics on this one with cloves, cardamom and camphor, and then comes a wave of sweeter notes like toffee, milk chocolate and orange rind. Full texture, round and creamy, with sweet dark cherries, fudge, and mocha coffee with a refreshing minty breeze. Quite long with lingering honey and wood spice.

Extraordinary, exceptional, magnificent. The 12 year old is fantastic but this 14 year old is a quantum leap, a paradigm change.

I am no malt whisky expert but even my ruined taste buds got toffee, walnuts, almonds, and distinct "chocolate bourbon biscuits" together with Orkney oat cakes and something like a taste like heather smells. What most impressed me was character, combined with smoothness and no alcohol after burn on the back of the tongue.

Hamish from my local in Rolleston, New Zealand said this was worth every penny. So right.

I used to be a Macallan groupie but this is the best Speyside I have drunk.

Much better value then "perfect" Macallan.

Ultimately, it is the character.
