"A wonderfully composed blend showing fragrant fruit notes of ripe satsuma plum, blueberry and cranberry with hints of Asian spice, redcurrant jelly, gingerbread, earth and a light whiff of orange blossom. Medium bodied, with the trademark Henschke detail and clarity of fruit; everything in its place, nothing clashing, with bright lacy acidity, gentle fine sandy tannin grip and pure easy-drinking, savoury-edged flow."

This blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre is Henschke’s heavy-hitting Grenache blend. It’s generally quite beefy and brooding but the 2020 vintage has bought out a more approachable side with good ripeness and generosity of fruit. Mid to deep ruby in colour, it is a little reserved right now with blackberry and dark cherry fruits plus an attractive spicy edge That savouriness continues on the palate with touches of earth and animal skin over ripe blackberry fruit flavours and pliable, approachable tannins. It’s a solid Johann’s vintage that probably needs a couple of years to hit its peak.
