Longrow Peated 700ml 46%

The introductory offering in Springbank’s excellent peated Longrow range.

Springbank first revived this brand back in 1973, naming it after a former Campbeltown distillery that closed back in 1896.

Whilst Springbank’s standard whisky has a little peat to it, Longrow really kicks things up a notch. The spirit is peated to around 50 ppm. Unlike Springbank, which is partially triple distilled, Longrow is a simple double distillation, which allows for the more characterful elements of the peated spirit to take hold.

The spirit is aged in former Bourbon barrels, which ensures that the peat takes centre stage. Indeed, this is a maritime and smoky malt whisky, with some classic Campbeltown funk, beautiful tropical fruit flavours, fudgy peat, charred oak and a good helping of rich honey’d vanilla.

Bottled at 46% ABV, and without either chill filtration or colouration, these techniques allow the character of this malt to really express itself.

A lovely, smoky Campbeltown dram, and pretty excellent value too!
