Created in 1919 by brothers Luigi and Silvio Barbieri, who inherited the family liqueur company from their father Giuseppe in 1912, Aperol has been made to the same secret recipe of rhubarb, orange and a wide assortment of herbs and roots for over a century. It remains one of Italy's most iconic aperitifs, instantly recognisable by its vibrant orange colour.

A perfectly balanced, low-strength aperitivo with a distinctive bittersweet flavour — bitter and citrusy, without being overpowering.

The Official Aperol Spritz (3-2-1 Rule)

• 3 parts Prosecco D.O.C. (90ml)
• 2 parts Aperol (60ml)
• 1 part soda water (30ml)
• Garnish with a slice of orange

Fill a large wine glass with ice, pour in the Prosecco, add the Aperol, then top with soda water and garnish — the ideal balance of Prosecco's bubbly brightness, Aperol's citrus bitterness and the lightness of soda.
