About Tempranillo
Tempranillo is Spain's great red grape. It makes medium to full bodied wines with cherry, plum, leather, tobacco and vanilla notes, especially when aged in oak.
Rioja and Ribera del Duero
Rioja is Spain's most famous wine region and Tempranillo is its main grape. Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva show increasing time in oak and bottle. Ribera del Duero, home of Vega Sicilia, makes darker, more powerful Tempranillo.
Tempranillo Beyond Spain
Australian and New Zealand winemakers now grow Tempranillo too, with fresh, juicy styles from McLaren Vale and the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke's Bay. See more Spanish wine.
