The wine is named after Robert Strangways Wigley, a noted South Australian eccentric and state cricketer who established Wirra Wirra back in 1894. Each vintage we take pride in producing a flagship shiraz that befits McLaren Vale’s reputation as a first-class producer of this varietal and home to some of the oldest shiraz vines in the world.
Tasting Notes:
Appearance: Rich mahogany hues encircle a deep black plum core.Nose: Aromatic layers of mulberry, dried figs, cinnamon, clove, charcuterie, and dark chocolate, complemented by fine French oak.Palate: Generous flavors of deep satsuma plums and French polish, supported by vibrant acidity and powdery tannins, leading to a lengthy, refined finish.
Food Match:
Black pepper crusted roast beef with beetroot and green beans.
Held in reserve until three years from vintage, this wine is enjoyable at release and will reward up to twenty years of careful cellaring.
