Caol Ila 12 Year Old Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml

Caol Ila (Gaelic for "the Sound of Islay") sits hidden in a quiet cove near Port Askaig — one of the wildest and most picturesque spots on the island. Built in 1846 by Glasgow businessman Hector Henderson and drawing on the abundant water of Loch Nam Ban, the distillery has been quietly producing some of Islay's most distinctive whisky ever since.

Considered one of the lighter Islay malts, Caol Ila is medium-bodied with a rounded flavour and a pale, greenish-tinged colour.

Nose: Subdued, citric fruitiness with a whiff of bath oil and fresh, minty appetising character — smoke is kept in the background.

Palate: Opens sweet, moving into light fragrant smokiness with a smooth, pleasant mouthfeel — notes of seaweed, iodine and a gentle medicinal touch.

Finish: Sweet smokiness lingering into a slightly sour, dry, peppery finish.
