Catena Zapata Birth of Cabernet 2022 is a premium Cabernet blend from Mendoza, Argentina, created as a tribute to the fascinating origins of Cabernet Sauvignon and its journey from Europe to the foothills of the Andes.

Crafted by renowned winemaker Alejandro Vigil, the 2022 vintage is composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. The fruit is sourced from high-altitude vineyards in Mendoza, where the combination of elevation, alluvial soils and intense sunlight helps produce Cabernet with concentration, freshness and elegant structure.

The wine is fermented in a combination of concrete eggs, small stainless-steel tanks and French oak roll-fermenters before being aged for 18–24 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

The nose is elegant and expressive, showing cassis, blackberry and ripe dark fruit, complemented by subtle herbal notes, tobacco, spice and finely integrated oak.

On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, combining juicy dark fruit with polished tannins, refreshing acidity and a distinctive mineral character. The finish is long, focused and slightly saline, giving the wine excellent balance between richness and freshness.
