Matawhero Church House Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2025 750ml
Sourced from the Tietjen vineyard in Gisborne's Hexton Hills (Golden Slopes) appellation, this Chardonnay is grown on the Mendoza clone and made from a blend of hand- and machine-harvested fruit. Part of the parcel is tank-fermented cool to dryness with full malolactic fermentation and extended lees aging, while the remainder is barrel-fermented in a mix of American and European oak, also taken through full malolactic conversion with lees contact, before the two components are blended together.
Aroma: Ripe peach and melon layered with butterscotch and toasty oak notes, with hues of yellow and polished gold in the glass.
Palate: Rich and full-bodied with considerable weight and length — creamy texture, stone and orchard fruit flavours, gentle spice and a touch of warmth, balanced with complexity and charm.
Best paired with seafood, white meats and cheeses.
