About Clos Ostler Waitaki Valley Wine
Clos Ostler is a pioneer of the Waitaki Valley in North Otago, where the valley meets the braided Waitaki River. Founders Jim Jerram and Jeff Sinnott began searching for land in 1998 and planted their first Pinot Noir on the Clos Ostler site in 2002, a north facing escarpment of limestone soils formed from an ancient seabed around 38 million years old. The cool climate and limestone give the wines a tight, mineral and Burgundian character that the team calls liquid geography.
The Clos Ostler Waitaki Valley Wine Range
The Monopole range comes from the original Clos Ostler vineyard. Clos Ostler Monopole Pinot Noir is fine boned and savoury, with red cherry, wild herbs and a chalky, mineral finish. Clos Ostler Monopole Chardonnay is taut and textural, with citrus, stone fruit and a saline limestone edge. The estate is also known for Caroline's Pinot Noir and Audrey's Pinot Gris.
