What Is an Independent Bottler?

Independent bottlers buy casks from distilleries and mature, select and bottle them under their own label. This gives rare single cask, cask strength and older vintage releases that the distillery itself does not offer.

Leading Independent Bottlers

Gordon and MacPhail from Elgin is famous for Connoisseurs Choice and old vintages, Cadenhead's is Scotland's oldest independent bottler, Signatory offers Cask Strength and Un-chillfiltered collections, and Douglas Laing makes Old Particular and Remarkable Regional Malts such as Big Peat.

Blenders and New Bottlers

Compass Box creates award winning blended malts such as Peat Monster and Hedonism, while Hunter Laing, Adelphi and Infrequent Flyers release limited single cask bottlings from across Scotland.
