About Prosecco

Prosecco is Italy's best-known sparkling wine, made mainly from the Glera grape in the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions of north-east Italy. It is usually made using the tank method, which keeps it fresh, light and fruity, with notes of green apple, pear, citrus and white flowers. Prosecco DOC covers the wider region, while Prosecco Superiore DOCG from Conegliano Valdobbiadene is the premium hillside zone. What is the difference between Prosecco and Champagne?

Prosecco comes from north-east Italy, is made mainly from the Glera grape and gets its bubbles in large tanks, giving a light, fruity style at a lower price. Champagne comes only from the Champagne region of France and is fermented a second time in the bottle, giving finer bubbles and toasty, brioche-like flavours. What does Brut and Extra Dry mean on Prosecco?

Confusingly, Extra Dry Prosecco is slightly sweeter than Brut. Brut is the driest and crispest style, while Extra Dry has a touch more fruitiness and softness.
